What happens if the art world is infected by the American Idol syndrome?

What happens if the art world is infected by the American Idol syndrome? Better find another planet, one might say. As many of you well know, The concept of the series is to find new solo recording artists where the winner is determined by the viewers. Winners are chosen by viewers through telephone, Internet, and SMS text voting. Basically, the mechanism is the same as X Factor but this syndrome is ready to affect the artworld. In addition to the much-talked Gallery Girls (which follows the lives of aspiring Galerinas) there is another show.  The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles has recently awarded the Mohn Award, a Biennial prize in which all the artists are selected from the survey Made in Los Angeles. The award of $ 100,000 was awarded to the Botswana born painter Meleko Mokgosi. Mokgosi was selected by a group of five finalists, the others were Simone Forti, Liz Glynn, Erika Vogt and sLanguage, the duo formed by Karla Diaz and Mario Ybarra. The finalists were selected by visitors of Hammer Museum who voted just like in American Idol. The press has described the award as The Mohn Games stating that a cash prize so high can not be distributed in a manner so popular and without real control. Indeed, this mechanism seems a little odd, but who’s to say that juries of experts are better than the people?
