Last week we talked about Gallery Girls, reality show that follows the lives of seven young aspiring gallery assistants in their moments of leisure and business. In the show the assistants are defined Galerinas, a terminology very similar to showgirls and, behave just like showgirls. Who hangs out the art world knows that the gallery assistant is a difficult and not paid job. Our Galerinas instead just pass their lives between party and flirts, delivering statements like: “I grew up with Sex and the City and I’m obsessed by the life style of Carrie Bradshaw.” Needless to add that the show has angered the players of the artworld who replied as follows:
“Gallery Girls is going to be another awesome Bravo ‘reality’ show that has little to no basis in reality. I will admit it’s going to be my new favorite guilty pleasure watching these girls bicker and bitch, getting drunk and putting their feet in their mouths. It’s the best sort of train wreck.” — Emma Hall, sales associate, Haunch of Venison
“I had trouble discriminating between the programming and the Match.com ads.” — Benjamin Tischer, co-owner, Invisible-Exports
“That was about the art world? If so, where was James Franco?” — Benjamin Tischer
“I fail to see what this show has to do with the art world at all. The Manhattanites are all eternal interns and the Brooklyners are flakey space cadets. I guess they have all caught on to the fact that the art world can be glamorous but they seem to have a complete disregard for the art part of the art world.” — Emma Hall
Come ben ricorderete la scorsa settimana abbiamo parlato di Gallery Girls, reality che segue pedissequamente la vita di sette giovani aspiranti assistenti di galleria nei loro momenti di lavoro e di svago. Nello show in questione le assistenti vengono definite Galerinas, una terminologia molto simile a quella di Veline e, si comportano proprio come showgirls sgallettate. Chi bazzica il mondo dell’arte sa bene che l’assistente di galleria è un lavoro difficile e poco remunerato. Le nostre Galerinas invece non fanno altro che destreggiarsi tra party e flirts, sciorinando dichiarazioni del tipo: “Sono cresciuta con Sex and the City e sono ossessionata dallo stile di vita di Carrie Bradshaw!”. Inutile aggiungere che lo show ha fatto letteralmente infuriare i protagonisti dell’artworld che hanno risposto così a quanto si vede sullo schermo:
“Gallery Girls non è la realtà, non penso che stare in galleria significhi ubriacarsi, fare la pu***na e mettersi i piedi in bocca” – Emma Hall di Haunch of Venison
