Lars von Trier is preparing a movie generated by the audience

Lars von Trier is planning to launch an unprecedented art project. The acclaimed (and crazy) director of masterpieces such as Melancholia (2011) and Antichrist (2009) is in fact preparing something like a piece of video art, a movie generated by the audience. This ambitious project will be titled Gesamt and will be screened in October to Kunstahl Charlottenborg. Gesamt in Danish means “Total” or “aggregation” and, like many films by the famous filmmaker, will be based on a few rules which as usual will be very weird. The audience involved will be asked to shoot five minutes of movie based on the following subjects: a sonata by Cesar Franck, the text of a scene from a play by August Strindberg, a song by Sammy Davis Jr., the final chapter of Ulysses by James Joyce and a painting by Paul Gauguin. It is unlikely that Gesamt will fail to provoke, particularly given von Trier’s sixth point of inspiration will be a series of photographs of Nazi concentration camps created by Albert Speer. In 2011, Lars von Trier has been expelled from the Cannes Film Festival for the jokes he made about  Nazism, we hope that this time he wouldn’t be so silly.
